As you may have read in the local press, the Alde and Ore Estuary Trust (AOET) are presently embarking on a project to raise £10m to fund improvements to coastal defences along both estuaries. The project includes work at many locations, including work in Tunstall. One method of fund raising is to use a facility called Enabling Development. In essence, this allows small scale development on land presently used for farming. If the development is permitted by the local planning authority (in our case SCDC) this vastly increases the value of the land and when the land is sold to a developer, this money is then passed on to the cause (i.e. the AOET)
Several different sites are being consider, with one falling within the Parish of Tunstall, along School Road. In order to gauge local opinion to this suggestion, initial proposals for the Tunstall site will be on display at an exhibition to be held on 4th July between 4.00pm and 8.00pm in Tunstall Community Centre. At the exhibition the enabling team, along with the architects Wincer Kievenaar, will be available to explain how enabling works and the AOET’s general aims, along with answering questions relating specifically to the Tunstall site.
We would encourage all residents to attend the exhibition to find out more and to give your opinion. If you are unable to attend but would like to view the outline proposals please telephone me on 01394 411405 and I will arrange for the plans to be passed to you.
