George Pinkney was one of many young men from Tunstall who served in World War 1. As an unmarried man, during his time in service he wrote to his sister, Nellie Pinkney, who lived at Tunstall Common.
Below are scans of the original 44 letters he wrote, a transcribe of each for easier reading (both numbered sequentially) and further papers; all kindly donated for display by George's family.
Heartbreakingly, George was killed in action on 2nd November 1918, just under 4 months after being posted to France and just 9 days before the end of the war.
